According to Reuters, iPhone and smartphone thieves are increasing significantly recently. But now iPhone owners can fight back with new technologies.
One of them is called Find My iPhone feature available from Apple. This feature allows iPhone owners to locate the iPhone's location and erase important data on it and among other things.
An iPhone owner lost his iPhone in Chicago, IL and was able to get it back using the service mentioned above. He was lucky because he didn't get shot in the face or anything but be really carefully, don't try to get your phone back by yourself, call the police instead because you might end up with some really dangerous thieves with guns out there. Another solution to your iPhone theft problem is to make a deal with them.
An Indian company called Maverick Mobile Solutions has a system that help victims to activate the siren and send a text message to the stolen phone possibly try to negotiate a deal with them to get the phone back. The idea is good, but it's not practical though. They steal your iPhone, it's a illegal activity. Why should they make a deal with you to give you a chance to expose themselves to a risky position to get caught?
For many iPhone users, loosing personal data such as photos, videos could be devastating, especially if you have some really private stuff that you don't want anyone to see, you should always secure them somewhere else instead of leaving them on your iPhone. For some it's not a big deal at all. No matter what you do, always backup your valuable data in case these kind of situations arise.
