iPhone 3GS Review

iphone 3gs

Apple has launched the new iPhone which they call iPhone 3GS. If you watch TV, you will see that the lines waiting to buy iPhone 3GS is somewhat less than when the iPhone first introduced. In other words the excitement is not like it's used to be.   Maybe because it's got hit by the great recession that we are having here in the US.  Wait a minute, despite the fact that there are millions of people got laid off and still have no jobs since the recession hit but people are still lining up to buy the new iPhone.  That tells you something.   Does the iPhone 3GS have that magical power to stir people its way? Probably. I think so. To this day, no other smartphones can compete with iPhone and with the new updated features, iPhone once again has left others further behind. So what is so great about iPhone 3GS?  Let's do a comparison with the previous iPhone, iPhone 3G.  Here we go:

The Appearance:

iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G look exactly the same like a twin.  Both old and new model come in black and white color.  On Apple website they said the iPhone 3G only come in black which I think is not true because I have seen White iPhone 3G floating around on eBay and other sites for a long time.  I could be wrong. don't hold me for it.  Till this day, I am still impressed with its elegant design.

The Speed:

If you are the kind of person who want to run every cool apps for iphone out there then you are in luck because the new iPhone 3GS just got better everytime Apple release a new version of iPhone.  Now twice as fast than the 3G iPhone.

The Capacity:

iPhone has much more room to hold,  Apple doubled up the iPhone  flash drive.  Instead of  8GB, 16GB for 3G iPhone, now iPhone 3GS come with 16GB and 32GB, which is more than enough for all your music, movies, pics and apps needs.  For all music fans and movies out there, this is your chance to stuff all you want into the iPhone 3GS.

The Camera:

iPhone 3GS now has upgraded itself to have better picture quality with the 3 megapixels camera featuring video recording with autofocus and built-in editing capability where the iPhone 3G lacks that people complained.  Way to go Apple!  You finally listen to your fans.  But it took a long time to figure out, didn't it?

The Voice Control:

Designed with safety on the road in mind, Voice Control feature in iPhone 3GS let you make calls or play music using the sound of your voice which I think is a good feature.  But I am wondering how accurate would your voice be to control it?  And for anyone who is foreigner or has a little accent in their voice, will it still work???  We just have to see what they will say about that feature in the near future when they counter some issues related to this feature.

The Digital Compass:

I don't know if anyone ever need this feature??   It maybe good for anyone who hikes, travels or get lost in the woods, mountains, forests or something like that and happen to forget the GPS device.  In situations like those,  Digital Compass and GPS feature in iPhone 3GS may become handy.  Basically, it acts like the real compass that we used to use but in a digital format.  You can use it on its own or just watch it re-orient to the same direction as you are going.  Cool huh?

The Battery:

More juice than ever!  Talk time, standby time (30 hours), internet usage stay the same if you are on 3G network which is 5 hours.   But if you are on 2G network then you can talk longer than when you were with iPhone 3G.  More over, if you are happend to play musics  or watch videos a lot then you can enjoy as much as 6 hours and 3 hours  more than before, respectively.

There you have my review on the new iPhone 3GS.  To me if you already have an iPhone 3G and not happy with the speed, the capacity, and the quality of the pictures that the camera takes, then you can go ahead and upgrade to iPhone 3GS.  If you are happy with your iPhone 3G and already unlocked it to get the video recording feature, I wouldn't bother to upgrade it.  That's my honest opinion.  But hey, there are people out there just want to have all the latest, coolest tech toys that come out, go ahead buy the new iPhone 3GS.  The choice is yours to make.  I hope you enjoy reading this iPhone 3GS review just as I enjoy writing this for you guys.   :-)

How much will I have to pay for the iPhone 3GS?

JaCoby F asked:

I just got my iPhone 3G in February of 2009. Today I found out that the new iPhone 3GS came out adn I want it so bad because I really want the video camera, MMS, and faster internet. What will I have to do to get the iPhone 3GS? I was wondering if I could trade my old iPhone for the new one or would I just have to start a new contract?

Is there a difference between the American iPhone 3Gs and the English iPhone 3Gs?

Chris asked:

I want to buy an iphone 3Gs, and the american sites are way cheaper than the UK sites. The american one is about £61 sterling, but the english ones come cheapest at around £450 sterling. I was wondering wether there was a massive difference between the two iPhones, and wether or not it would alter the cost by £400.

Thanks

Ghyiards

I have heard many differnt rumours about the iphone 3gs costing $299US for the 32gb model, but is this on a plan which pays high monthly rates? or will the 299 price be just for the iphone itself not with a plan.

Does the new Iphone 3GS have the same virtual keyboard for texting as the original 3G?

Mrs.W asked:

The reason I disliked the iphone was because when texting the 3G it only had that small little keyboard that wouldn't turn horizontal. Does the new 3GS have the same thing, or do you have the option of turning the virtual qwerty keyboard sideways now. Anyone know that has seen the new Iphone. Let me know I'm interested.

What will it cost for unlimited everything for the new iphone 3gs per month?

Hal asked:

Ok, I've been hearing different things from everyone about this new monthly rate for the new iphone 3gs.

I'd like the get the iphone 3gs 32gb which is $300

I want unlimited texting which I hear is $20
and
I want unlimited data which is I hear $30

the activation fee I hear is $18

So.. excluding the new phone price and the activation fee, how much would the normal monthly fee be with those requirements?
